Natural Dyes
Colour drawn from the valley
At the heart of every Hunza Carpet piece is colour made the old way. The initiative began with an international specialist in natural dyes, and to this day handspun wool and real silk are coloured with plant and mineral dyes — then woven into rugs that age gracefully and never shout.

How it's made
The natural dyeing process
- 01
Wool is handspun and prepared in the valley.
- 02
Skeins are mordanted and steeped in natural dye baths.
- 03
Dyed yarn is dried in the mountain air before weaving begins.
- 04
Master weavers knot and beat each row by hand on the loom.
