Warm Gold All-Over Geometric Star Lattice Panel

Hunza valley embroidery

Warm Gold All-Over Geometric Star Lattice Panel

Wall Hangings

A large field is filled edge to edge with a dense lattice of interlocking stars, squares, and diamond cells in warm gold, rust, and olive tones, enclosed by narrow geometric borders. The all-over repeating geometry echoes the structured, tile-like motifs of heritage embroidery, here woven into a glowing monochromatic harmony. Hand-stitched in wool and silk, its scale and intricate repetition give it the gravity of a large textile-art panel for the wall.

The tradition

Hunza valley embroidery

The wall hangings carry Hunza's embroidery off the body and onto the wall. They blend traditional valley motifs — the same ibex horns, leopards and floral forms found on caps and wedding veils — with the freer compositions of contemporary artists trained in the workshop.

Made to be seen as textile art, each hanging is a panel of dense hand embroidery rather than a functional floor piece, so the silk catches the light and the design can be read close-up.

Motifs & meaning

Reading the design

Wall hangings mix Hunza's heritage motifs with new artistic perspectives.

  • Turangkish

Ibex horns — strength and surefootedness.

  • Herimani chuk

The millipede, a rhythmic protective border form.

  • Floral qalmi

Long-and-short silk stitches forming gardens of flowers.

  • Avant-garde fields

Modern compositions extending the tradition forward.

Materials & technique

How it is made

Hand-embroidered in naturally coloured silk and wool thread, mounted as a panel so the stitching reads as art rather than floor covering.
